With the valve cover and spark plugs removed, they looked at the surface of the piston and cylinder walls with a camera. I'm not sure if they did a leak down or not but it seems like if is there anything wrong with the valve train they would have found it... What else should be done to see if its damaged? I'm no mechanic.

You can't always see if a ringland is lifted with a bore scope. On an old motor of mine I had the heads off the car and still couldn't tell that a land was slightly lifted. You couldn't see till I pulled the pistons out. A compression test will tell you which cylinder is messed up.

There are multiple tests that should be ran among with a conclusion as to what is causing the noise and the issue be fixed. I'm sure all this was done before any dyno tests performed.

What kind of tapping was it? Did it seem to go along with the engine speed or did it seem faster? Was it more of a tapping or knocking? Did it seem like a hollow sound or was it more of a solid sound?

Strap it to the dyno and boom goes the dynomite!

It sounds like a tapping noise coming from the top of the motor around the passenger cylinder head. It increases as the rpm increases. On a cold start its quiet untill it gets to operating temp. As far as hollow vs solid I honestly can't tell. The car has no decrease in power either...

I appreciate your help thru the p.m. Surely a compression test was done before they called to say it's ok to put on the dyno.

So now its on the dyno about to be tuned and this whole ordeal is costing me about a grand.

So you bought a tune from Amazon?

He is definitely always willing to help out, he's helped me with my car a few times. Even left the track, went to his house and got a part for my car so that I could race more one night....

But that doesn't mean I can't give him shit

Sounds like the top of a piston is slightly tapping the head. AKA lifted ringland. Not 100% that is the problem but it could be and that is what it sounds like to me from what you are describing. Now this can happen and your rings can still be good and doing a compression test will show that the compression is good. And if that is the case the only thing you can do is take the motor out and pull it all apart if you can't find what is causing the issue.

A lot of people were running them on SVTP 4 years ago. Had a good rep. I was a broke college kid with no money to spend on a custom tune.
