  • A/C Clutch replacement cost

Well my A/C has been going warm/cold for several weeks now. Today it just went warm on the way home followed by an electrical burning smell. A few minutes later it started blowing cold again with a strong burning smell - i think the clutch is about or has gone bye bye. Probably take it in next week - any idea what the price low/hi price will be so I'll know if I'm getting rapped or not?

Wouldn't suprise me with my luck. Last episode i had with this car it had a bad shimmy while driving down the road - took it in and most of the tranny mount bolts had sheer'd or were gone.

The only reason I would suggest replacing the whole unit is if eother the pulley has spun on the snout of the compressor or there is metal in the system. Most of the time when your smelling the burning smell its the compressor locking up and the clutch slipping. If that was the case you need to replace whole thing along with the orfice and accumulator.

Oh god. I have the same problem. It will blow ice cold. Then warm. I'll turn it off for a few minutes. Then back on it will blow cold but smell like somethings burning.

Im hoping it would last till next month.

Gosh sounding like it's going to run 10 Ben Franklins. I have already spent nearly $2000 on this car this year. I'm about ready to trade the sombitch in and get something else - but I really enjoy the fact that this car has been with me through thick and thin..and mostly thin up until recently.

You will want to replace the entire compressor. The clutch assembly is about $50 howver labor to replace it will be around $200 and there is no guarantee it will fix your problem

A new compressor runs about $230, and you will need a new evaporator which is about $50. Labor would be another $250-300

On the low side expect $700, I usually get my work done at city garage because they have a 2 year 24,000 mile warranty
