  • Headlights are possessed... please help...

Smurfette's 94 Mustang has headlights that turn off whenever they want and come back on anytime they want.

No rhyme or reason to it... does not happen over bumps nor is it related to the light switch on the dash (I've already replaced it.)

It will work fine for days then act up 4 times within 30 minutes on any given evening.

I hear that there may be a relay involved that may be defective\overheating, and I've read other posts about the turn signal (which makes no sense), and of course I've read others basically telling you to go wire chasing throughout the circuit.

    Any good ideas\experience with this?

    It's driving my wife nuts....

Id start by inspecting the headlamp switch and connector.

Do the tail lights turn off when the headlights do?

I suspect your bright light switch on the column.

headlamp relay, multifuckedup switch dies and allows ground to jump, switch wears internally... sounds fun!

          Sounds ground related maybe.

Headlight switch already replaced. The plastic part of the connector looks like there was some minor arcing at some point but the actual metal connections and wires look just fine. Continuity seems to be good on all connections from the limited time I inspected it.

Good question... since it has only done it while moving, I haven't had a chance to verify...

I'm thinking the relay is the next suspect. Anyone know exactly where it is for removal?
