    2000 mustang gt
ok i got my built 5.4 liter mod motor in and it will crank but no start ,
use all the 4.6 stuff, harness , coils, pcm

    motor
    forged bottom in 5.4
    stock cams
    ported stock heads
    eddy intake
    hpx sensor
    80lb injectors
motor has 0 miles!! never started!!!

it has fuel preesure and the injectors are firing
    it has spark
replaced all plugs just to be sure

crank and cam sensor are plugged in ,

it just cranks doesnt even attempt to start , not sure what to check next , also i have a odyessy battery and i have to leave the charger on after i try to start it , maybe need a bigger battery to spin it faster?
any ideas ? im lost ?

Are you running battery in trunk? If so make sure you have a good ground going to the engine if you're running the ground full length from the battery to the front. If going to the body and from body to engine, make sure all connecting points are clean and tight. It's easy to get a voltage drop with all the added length of cable, etc.

Second, is the maf or the tune setup for the 80's? If this is off the injector pulse width may be incorrect allowing too much or not enough fuel. If you're getting a heavy gas odor when cranking it, try clear flooding the motor. Hold the accelerator on the floor while cranking, this will shut the injectors off and give it more air.

Have you tried starter fluid, if so does it attempt to fire?

Nope reuse my t56 and it wont crank if the clutch isnt in, no starter fluid yet , going to check compression first tonight , and hook i good battery and crank it with the pedal to the floor to clear out the cylinders and see what happens

sounds like it is getting way too much fuel to me. I had the same issue but I have the SCT proracer software and was able to pull fuel down low to see where I was at. If you do get it started a real fat fuel ratio will show lean on a wideband a lot of the times.

If the engine has never fired, the rings haven't had a chance to seat.

OP: you're in a position where it seems like the builder didn't time it correctly. Which sucks. Dunno if your custom build is interference or not, I hope for the best.

If its fueling really hard, it may have washed.the cylinders. Were the plugs wet with fuel. Try putting a little oil in the weak cylinder, crank the motor a few revolutions to oil the cylinder wall and retest compression.

Seated or not, it should have a hell of a lot more cranking compression then that. I did a compression check on my new motor I just got finished building before I started it up and I had an average of 195psi per cylinder. If there is 0 and 30 psi something is majorly wrong in that build.
