  • Getting 3.73's have a question?

Im getting 3.73's from ford racing website that has all of this in the kit...3.73 8.8" Ring and Pinion Gear Set and Install Kit, I was wondering what else would be needed if anything? I was looking at the Traction-Lok rebuild kit, but do I really need it? My cars a 04 GT 5spd so I don't think there will be any one wheel spin, correct me if im wrong!
    Thanks!

ps here is the link of what im fixing to order

Fluid, but install places will have that. I'd honestly consider 4.10's if your car is a 5-speed.

Ok...well its a daily driver so thats why im going with the 3.73's, but you don't think I will need the traction-lok kit?

not on the 04, and if you did, you be better spending you money on a 31spline diff and axles

Kit doesn't have a pinion bearing with it. If you replace the diff though, you'll need a full install kit with carrier bearings, too.

4.10's are fine for a daily driver, I've been using them myself the past 7 years. You will not need the trac-lok kit, however as mentioned above you will need differential fluid/friction modifier.

i may have missed it, but depending on miles, it may be wise to do a full install kit with all bearings. It never hurts. If the person installing doesnt have a bearing splitter or "knife" then youll need an inner pinion bearing. Always replace the pinion seal. The gears will have the crush sleeve and new nut. A t-lok freshen never hurts either. If you buy the carbon fiber clutches, they work real well and come with a better spring. There is nothing wrong with 4.10 in a daily, everyones needs are different though. Ive installed 4.56s in street cars before.AND yes, youll need fluid, frition modifier and GOOD rtv.

rebuilding the t-lok will depend on mileage and abuse. mine is still good at 29K. and those are hard miles with a lot of track time.

                  2 - 2.5 bottles of 75w-140 motorcraft + 1 bottle of motorcraft friction modifier.

and 3.73 are baby gears. go 4.56 or go home.

talk to greenbullit. there is a simple way to test if your t-lok is still good.

Thanks everybody for your input, I will probley just replace everything so I will not have to have it back open again. Last dumb newb question for the day...Once I replace everything and I wanted to go 4.10's later would all I have to do is just get the gear and pinion?

that will depend on the mileage you put on those 3.73s. you will find that out real quick once it's torn down and can eyeball the bearings. however, always change the pinion seal on any gear change regardless of mileage. and always change the ring gear bolts.

410's on both my daily driven mustangs - have had 373s and trust me, you'll want more gear sooner than later. Like they say - "don't fear the gear"
