I need a new catalytic converter on my truck as it came apart last friday.If I take it to a shop with a new in box converter, will they weld it in? I've heard that some places won't touch a converter if it wasn't purchased from them.

Most won't want to do it cause they buy the cheap universal ones for 32-45 $ and sell them for 120-250 . Then there's the fitment and warranty issues that always come up .
