  • Water pump pulley issue

So When I got my car I noticed the belt was missing a rib all the way around, and had me worried and I needed to replace it. So, I went to auto zone and found one that fit, put it on, and after about 200 miles I noticed it looks the same. Taking a closer look at the pulleys, I noticed the water pump pulley has some nicks in the back side of it (closer to pump) and it sits farther forward than all the other pulleys (towards the radiator). I am pretty sure this is what is killing the belts. I want to find a new pulley for it but didn't see it on the Auto Zone website and don't know if I need to replace the whole pump?

I already have to replace the radiator and fan as the stock fan has a few broken blades and looks like it walked into the radiator. It doesn't seem to leak, but I have a good stock radiator as well as an electric fan and controller to put on there. Not sure if I will have to upgrade the alternator first though for the fan to work right and not kill the battery/alt.

    Pics of radiator/fan:

I am pretty much done with the upgrades I have been working on. The 5 lug conversion was done half-assed before with just front rotors and rear disks without master/booster upgrade. So I got the spindles, struts, springs all around, brakes, 94/95 gt booster and master cylinder, manual proportioning valve, and lines all installed. Just gotta bleed up the system tonight, and get an alignment. The booster install SUCKED! Taking off the old booster was 2 hours, installing new one was another 3 hours as I had to hammer on the strut tower.

I may have to come pick that up from you if you are gonna be around tomorrow... But I probably should pull it apart first tonight to see why it is sitting so far forward. If it is a problem with the pulley, the pump, or both?

Given that the fan is fucked I'm willing to bet so is the bearing in the water pump. I'd replace the water pump for sure and maybe the pulley as well.
