  • I am about to set the GT on fire!

2007 GT Stock except headers, midpipe, catback, and tune.

Got the misfire taken care of after a visit to True Street a couple of weeks ago. Still had some low speed drivability issues but that is likely in the tune.

Drove the car to work last night (12 miles mix city / highway ) no problem, runs as well as it ever has. Drive it home today and get maybe 1 mile from the house and notice weird sound or feel in the exhaust, like a rapid pop. Make one of the last turns to the house and about 1/4 mile from home it falls on its face and dies and will not catch even though it cranks with the key. What should I be looking at as the culprit? I would have said the alt but the lights never dimmed and the radio was working fine. Oh yeah it's not throwing a cel either.

I did a little reading and I got it the last 200 yards into my drive way finally but feathering the gas pedal and starting it in nuetral then slipping it into drive. Wasn't pretty and she sounds like shit. I am kinda wondering if it blew a plug from the sound its making. Engine's too hot at the moment and I am too annoyed to go pull the cops off and check them.

Would a blown out plug cause it to die and not start like that without feathering the gas?

This was supposed to be the reliable daily and that plan has apparently flown the coop.

blown plug shouldn't kill the engine, just make a lot of noise. Also in my experience it's pretty easy to tell which cylinder blows the plug out because it will usally blow the coil out of the hole with it.

If you do set it on fire, delete this thread first. That way insurance will never know it was pre-meditated.

Two different issues I think now. If I pull the MAF connection it would idle badly but also sounds like something banging around inside the passenger side of the motor. COPs all looks and feel secure and I don't see them making that kinda racket.

I was sure it would be the Mach that blew up not the GT since the GT never gets roughed up.

Ignore the clicking right after I turn the key, the AC has always done that.

Damn, sounds bad, like something came loose in the head. Hope you get it sorted out.

Tell me about it. Every thing about these cars is expensive when it breaks.

Fuel pump or injector problem maybe, or mass airflow problem.

60-70k not sure off hand exactly. Doesnt get raced or run hard since its my daily, aboht 25 miles a day when i work. Trying to decide if I should just tow it to the shop or see if I can get the cam cover / plugs / etc off in the driveway. That clacking sounds a lot like when the Mach bent a wrist pin.

That is a rod I have heard them on about 6 4.6 motors and I can bet that is what it is.

                            Check compression as a start.

Pull the valve covers and see if you did'nt break a rocker/spring.

Long shot but I would check it out.

My experence is talking, broke a stud on a valve once.
