  • Vibrations- Prothane Trans. mount?

I just got done doing a 5 speed swap into my 65 Mustang. I immediately noticed a good deal of vibrations at 2k rpm and above. I feel them whether I am in neutral sitting still or driving. Having the clutch in or out does not matter either.

Father in law seems to think it is the new polyurethane transmission mount. So tomorrow I will be swapping it out for a rubber one to see if it helps. I have never ran a poly mount before.

If that does not help I guess I will be tearing it all back down and having the new 28 oz fly wheel balanced to the old 28 oz flywheel. I probably should have done this in the first place but after talking to several people and two different engine machine shops we concluded that there was no reason to do it because neither flywheel had material added or removed to change the balance.

    Thoughts?

I'm going to say the flywheel is the wrong balance. I've ran Prothane trans mounts before with zero vibration issues.

It hards to say how big of one but I can feel it in pedal, steering wheel, shifter, seat... You get the idea. To me it even affects the tone of the engine but that may be me overreacting. The clutch feels great, it shifts and downshifts great etc.i have a feeling I will be tearing it all back apart again.

            What has changed.

            Old:
            Toploader 4 speed
            Hurst shifter
            Stock 65 flywheel
            Center force dual friction clutch

            New:
            G-force t5
T5 conv with adapter plate using old style bell housing
            Ram HD billet steel flywheel
Ram HD clutch kit 26 spline
            Steeda triax

Everything else is the same and the vibration can be felt sitting still.

Motor mounts weren't changed in this swap.

For motor mounts I use stock rubber style with hole a drilled through them. Then I put a bolt through the hole to keep the motor mounts from splitting. I have done this for years and never had issues.

I have been going through the same deal on my coupe since I bought it in '09. I pretty much replaced everything expect the flex plate. On my car, it starts at exactly 1,500 and fades away at 1,700.

I don't remember seeing any dowel pins in the flywheel... my stock one did not have any either.

Wouldn't the dowel pins just help guide the pressure plate on? The input shaft would keep the clutch disc aligned and once you get all the PP bolts in then it would be aligned also... correct?

I forget how many dowels there are supposed to be.

I will try it but when I tear it down that far I will be getting the balance of the new flywheel checked/matched to the old one at a machine shop. Going to cover all bases at once and hope not to have to tear it down again.

I have been running it without dowel pins since 2002 and never had this issue.... why now?

                              Thanks for the input guys.
