We've got a 110 generator at work (Volvo Penta TAD 1032GE) that we need to convert to 220 in order to power a hangar and some small buildings. No one here has any clue how to do this other than some info that we need to rewire it and drop the RPM to get it to run at 50hz. The high's are hanging around 120 degrees and we have no A/C, any help is obviously appreciated!

Convert 110v to 220v?

The phase to neutral voltage right now is 110? What is the phase to phase voltage? It looks like there are several different taps on the generator to give you a choice of output voltages. Just so you know someone could get killed fucking around with that thing.

I have no idea what the phase stuff is, I tried to get info on google before my original post but nothing seemed related to what I need. As for getting killed, that's pretty much the reason no one wants to touch it. It didn't run when we found it, now that we've fixed that we'd like to be able to use it. We're working in a powerless hangar and it's too damn hot to be out here all day with no a/c.

Is there a part number on the unit elsewhere? Something like a GSW-xxx? The one listed is the part number for the engine, not the generator as a whole.Last edited by ThreeFingerPete; 07-29-2012, 11:05 AM.

That's the closest thing I could find in English. Only other thing I found was Volvo-Penta B65070 Sweden.

Does the generator output 110VAC/60Hz?
Converting 110 to 220 is possible with two 110 outputs but overriding the frequency controls is probably going to not work, meaning making it output at 50Hz is unlikely if it is set to be operated at 60Hz.
The generator output on this pdf manual says the generator is producing 28V/60A. Is it a DC generator?
It also looks to only have 1700 W output. At 220, you're limited to about 7.5 amps.Last edited by BERNIE MOSFET; 07-30-2012, 09:37 AM.Men have become the tools of their tools.
