  • Engine rebuild or reman?

87GT, sucker is tired... leaks oil, burns oil, etc. No idea on miles... going to do a compression test when I get to dallas tonight. Just wanted some feedback...

It's a stocker, but not an HO motor... It was obviously replaced at some point unless there was a point in time that Ford didn't put the HO's in the GT's....

Anways, should I rebuild this one? Or buy a remanufactured? Downtime is a concern which is why I am leaning towards remans... any suggestions on either one?

Might as well check the dealer also.

Give gearhead a shot, they have 2 stocked in Dallas ... Reman units come with a 3/unl mileage warranty .

Or ask for a DFN1 out of a 96 explorer

ask if they have any U codes in either or.

Doesn't use the 351W firing order.

They'll have a reman 302, but it will cost you a grand.

Edit.. I have 2 302 blocks and 2 sets of E7 heads.. Still need rebuild but the heads are pretty fresh (from what I am told).

I'd start building a new motor and keep driving yours. Even if you go with a stock cam again buy a set of good alum heads. Well worth the money over the e7's.
