    Was the test with the hood off just idling? I would have thought letting the heat/air out of that engine bay would have helped a lot.

      Didi you have any of these problems before the turbo?

      Might try an expansion tank tied into the lower rad hose with the steam vents also running to the top of the tank, just make sure the cap of the tank is the highest point in the cooling system so that any air bubbles will travel to the tank rather then get trapped in the system causing problems..

        What have I been saying, thermo the lowest you can go. Get that water circulating ASAP, especially in Texas. Big radiator and get those fans on early. As you go you can tailor to your need but make no mistake, water will mimic its enviroment.

          tried no thermo and fans on 100%, not sure i can get water moving any earlier then that!

            If you've ruled out a faulty gauge/sender, then that heat shield simply isn't enough, wrap the headers.

                if it maintains over 200* with a gutted thermo at speed or at idle and the fans on full time i really can't see how a 160* thermo would help.

                  Because it gives the water a little bit of time to cool off before it gets pushed into the motor. Give it a shot, I bet it works better than you think.

                    I'll try it, but I give it a very low likelihood at this point. If a 195 doesnt work and no thermo (just a restrictor) doesn't work it would seem pretty unlikely that some point between would be a whole lot better.

                      just mounted a fan to the front side to the intercooler. seems to really help airflow. going to test it after i work out.

                        My 5.0 ran hot when I had a open thermostat. I put a 160 in it and a good radiator cap and it ran at around 165 all day long

                            get a 180 thermostat and drill ONE 1/8 hole in it. problem solved.

                              I've got a 160 ordered. I had a hole drilled in the 196 and it didn't make a difference.

                              Oddly enough thermo or no thermo doesn't seem to make any difference. It heats up the same either way. Doesn't even seem to take any longer to heat up without a thermo.

                              Needless to say my aux fan didn't make any difference. It did bring my IAT's down a little but that is about it.

                                I had a similar problem in my GTO when it was turboed and went through the same process. I added the giant aluminum radiator and it didn't fix it and I finally gave up and sold the turbo kit. The weird thing was that even without the giant intercooler out front it still runs a little hot with the ac on. When it was NA with the factory copper rad it ran 179 all day long.

                                I wonder if the giant aluminum radiators don't cool as well as the smaller copper ones.

                                Any way you can try a good copper rad?
