I drilled holes in my fenders for heat vents, I think they look quite stylish. My car has a 195 thermostat and rarely sees 200-205.

          Radiator cap pressure is incorrect/defective?

I'm making the assumption this thing has a normal rad cap, since I know jack shit about lsx's or what you've got going on...but if it does have a normal rad cap on the radiator, have you tried puting a lower lb cap on it, like a 13# instead of the factory type 16#?

Water at 13 lbs of pressure is a bit cooler than at 16 lbs. A lower cap (13#) will allow the water to flow thru sooner than the higher one (16#), which might help alieviate your problem a bit.

            Then again, I don't know shit....lol

considered doing this, but with a powerglide i spin ~3k rpm on the highway. i've heard that the elec. pumps do better at idle, and are great for drag cars that makes short blast, but for a car that is going to maintain higher rpm's for long periods the pump doesn't keep up (since it doesn't spin relative to engine rpm).

I believe it is an 18lb radiator cap (factory rating)

I've had a similar situation to what you are experiencing and ended up having to do vents in the hood to blow the air over the motor and out the hood instead of allowing it to work its way out between the various obstructions. I know it's an extreme step but it did finally solve my cooling problem. I also had a bigger rad, electric fans, etc.. Does it overheat with the hood up?

If you have some old hood laying around you're willing to punch a few holes in just to test it you might find some relief.

it's a 2" pin on lightweight glass cowl. i'll try driving with it off and see how it does.

the hood itself will create a low pressure area under the hood which helps cool/suck air in, it's not the best method to drive around without a hood, but if it's stationary it's a worth while attempt to at least see if heat dissipation is the culprit. Is it also overheating while moving?

I think CJ is on to something. You're putting a ton of air INTO the engine area, but is there any way for it to exit?

gets too hot either way. stopped is worse with the a/c on though. 50mph seems to be it's happiest place since the rev's are not insane and there is a decent amount of airflow.

You would think the cowl is drawing air from the engine compartment... especially going down the highway.
