I really wanted to have my cams degreed when my motor was being rebuilt, as i wasn't quite sure we were not leaving some power on the table. I remember reading about 30-odd HP being on the table, or more, if your cams are not dialed in right. For me, being right now all motor, every little bit helps.

Now i know the long chains have a lot of slack and give to them, and they don't exactly help keep things 100% precise, but I still wish I had insisted on doing it. My fault really. We had a lot of problems to overcome, and finite resources, so its whatev.

    * Forgot about the main problem we had with this : Houston Performance was unwilling to provide us the cam specs for the custom grinds, and so we would need to establish the cam specs first before deciding where we wanted to set any cam timing.

Sell HP cams, buy custom Comp Cams. Problem solved and possibly a better camshaft to boot.

You can find out the cam specs while degreeing the cams. I checked everything and found the duration on both cams and the CL. BTW you can make the CL whatever you want. So by doing that you set up the cams more for your exact needs. If you run a short runner intake you can set them up where they will make more power and tq in the lower and mid range and still make alot of power up to. You can set them up for any application if you know what works best for what mods you have.

Or call Bullet and have them make you some cams. I can't stand people that hide there specs and wouldn't buy a cam from them.

im going to assume that the new 4Vs with the TiVCT don't actually need to be degree'd due to the variable cam timing?

I would assume they will still require degreeing. The computer has the ability to adjust the cams yes, but it still needs a starting point. No different than say a TFI ignition system. The computer is going to add x number of degrees of timing, based on it's programming, to the base timing. It doens't know whether you set it at 5 degrees or 25 degrees.

LIke I said, I assume that to be the case.

When I had the builder pull the aftermarket cams out of mine and install the 96-98 cams I had, he said it was a pain getting them lined up where he wanted them to be. He doesn't enjoy degreeing the 4v's but it's only money to him.

You really don't need to remove them. You can do it with everything installed.

This is why all mod motors MUST be degreed in for best powa.

The variance in the 4v valve train is quite depressing.

I also opted for the heavy duty timing chain tensioner from roush (i believe that's where it came from). Its amazing how much deflection the oem ones have
