  • Spool for street use?

Been tossing around the idea of throwing a spool in the car, the lsd is toast and I have a 31 spline to throw in it for now, but when that goes or maybe later down the road, what are the negatives to a spool?

How much is that going to effect turning? Tire wear doesn't seem like it'll be that big of a problem, or is it?

itll completely change the way your car steers and wear tires. You couldnt pay me to put a spool in a car like yours

Well dang it. I was just thinking of how much better traction would be.

Buy a Detroit locker, or just rebuild the LSD when needed.

One thing you'll learn no matter how much you spend high dollar shit needs more Matinence.

The faster my car got the slower I drove it haha.

Spool sucks. My dad has been running one for a few years and it was great going straight but even just pulling out of the driveway sucked ass. Keep a limited slip, lockers make a shit load of noise.

If your not on soft tires you'll be fine. they do wear out tires faster on the rear, but not near as noticable with street tires.

Pick up one of the 31 spline truck diffs and put the carbon fiber clutch kit in.

my dads camaro has a mini spool in it its not to bad with new tires but its chirp city if he runs old tires it took almost a year to wear out the back tires all in all we might put a fourth gen rearend in it.it not really worth it in the long run as it costed $330 to replace the tires.

Had a spool in my '65 and it was a biotch (and scary) to drive in the rain...as soon as you accelerate and then attempt to make a turn you're going straight ahead or simply fishtailing. I took it out as soon as i got home and now i use it to throw at cats.

this... and it will break loose when you least expect it, in my case, going around a loop on ramp off 30 when it was just slightly damp.

Limited slip works great, just rebuild it.

                          Thanks for the advise guys.

Spool in the rain sounds sketchy, and lol at throwing it at cats.

Yes, it is a crap shoot in the rain. When I was just out of high school I drove a gutted 67 mustang everywhere, with a solid cam 351w and a 4.11 spooled. Wouldn't recommend it, even though most of the time as a hard headed kid, I was fine with it.
I remember, other than sliding around every turn at speed, I got caught in the rain in a section of town with nothing but stoplight after stoplight and a lot of traffic. Every red light was an exercise in patience. I couldn't touch the skinny pedal without the tires turning in the rain. I had to get rolling while spinning the et street style slicks, and using the wheel to try and not slide sideways into the cars next to me, every single light. I was a hated man for those fifteen minutes and five lights. lol
