Foxbody (A-C) R134a Conversion

Install a parallel flow condenser, cycling switch, o-tube, flush all metal lines with solvent, flush all rubber hoses with air, remove the compressor and cycle in new oil.
I dont think an SN95 condenser is a parallel flow.

On another note , the compressor was make some awful noise when it first kicked on. did it a few times. aaaarrrggghhh!

Whenever the compressor squeals like that from a start up the rebuilder messed up. Iv had it happen a lot. Make sure the compressor will spin over by hand or easily with a pair of channel locks before you install it.

Don't mean to hijack but I just came from autozone and they have some BS flush in a can.I guess you hook it up and flush. Is this crap like everyother DIY home a/c kit

Dont use that crap in your system. Think about it. If you add anything to your closed a/c system to flsh it where will the debris go? Besides, a functioning a/c system wont have debris in it anyway unless your compressor is going out. The entire a/c shelf at any parts store is a joke. Only put virgin r134a in your system and the correct oil.

Best of luck getting it all blowing cold Scott. And post some pics when you get a chance. I'm fixing to add PA 130A 3G Alt, Contour Dual fans, and DC Controller to my '92. I'm just waiting on the DC controller to get here. The car and the A/C have a little tougher time staying frosty cold when the car isn't moving. The electric fan should help.

Foxbody's come stock with a tube style condener and they dont work well with r134a. Electric fans will help but a parallel flow condenser will fix the problem.

I'm running a full Hose Wizard R134 kit on my car. Overall, I'm very pleased with the kit so far. It pulls down 42-44 out of the vent when I'm going down the road. But gets a little warmer, maybe 50-54 when the car is not moving. I definitely think its airflow related, and my bbk longtubes put off a ton of heat. The stock fan even with a heavy duty clutch fan just doesn't move much air at idle.

It's not really a big deal since I only drive the car 1000 miles a year. I've been wanting to add a 130A alt snd electric fan anyways.

im getting ready rid the system of the r134a. Talk to my guy at oriellys he said same thing happened 2 weeks ago on a 93 mustang. gave me 3 new cans and some oil.

Compressor should be here tomorrow.

time to tear it back apart and flush

Should their be any visable signs of the compressor going bad (trash etc)

any way to know that its NOT the orfice tube.

100deg weather is on its way.

I think 42-44 on max fan speed is pretty solid for a '92 LX with 79k miles and a H/C/I 5.0 with longtubes. It probably pulls a couple degrees cooler on fan speed 1 or 2. Especially in ridiculous Texas summer heat. Regardless, 40-42 is enough to keep me cool. I think the dual electric fans will help it maintain those temps better at idle.

Depends on what exactly broke on the compressor if there will be trash in the system but there usually is. When opening the system look in the lines for metal shaving's if so you'll need another dryer and likely a orfice tube as well (not sure if your variable one is serviceable).

How are you charging the system? If not careful compressor damage can occur if not done properly.

Should be in the mid to upper 30's especially at highway speeds.
