Question about VW motors

Im thinking about buying a 2000 Jetta, its got @200k on the VR6...guy said hes had the oiling and cooling systems rebuilt/replaced/etc/whatever, and its an automatic. Im going to go look at the car tomorrow morning. Whats the quality/longevity of these VR6s and the VW autos?

The TDI is a bastard too. Intake gets gummed up, EGR pipes rust out, turbo leaks oil into the boost charge. Not to mention a timing kit is over $300 and you have to get the injection pump reprogrammed after the timing belt change.

VW is a piece of shit, not a day goes by that my MKIV has a little problem, then the whole cooling system goes to shit (FOR NO REASON). Fuel pump dies at less than 100k miles even though ive never drove it to the point of no gas. Just avoid IMO. Never buying a VW unless its made in Germany, Mexicans have no idea how to put together cars... Only donkeys

The VR6 might be OK with 200k but the older Jetta automatics should be avoided...

vr6 is good....but be aware of the timinig chains on that motor with that high milage...
sludging isnt a issure on this motor.....thats only the older 1.8 models....which is cured by a good clean out and use syn 5w40 motor oil.

auto trans in that car is hard to find if broken....if this were a 5/6 spd car i wouldnt mind having it.

Depending on the price it could be a nice car...but the auto trans is killing the deal for me.
i vote pass and another will come.

Id say pass cause i have a clean 01 vr6 jetta sitting outside that overheated blew head gasket and detonated on one cylinder and cant find anyone to rebuild it cheap, their expensive to rebuild, its cheaper to buy a complete used engine and even a used motor is expensive all over $1500 an hard to find.
