91 explorer, when pulling the engine.. Can the trans just be unbolted? Or do I need to remove the cross member and pull it back?

It's a 5speed so the input shaft needs to clear the clutch? Or can I pull and replace the engine without touching the trans?

    Any help appreciated!

    Thanks a lot guys!

Pull the radiator and lay the condensor forward, use 2 people and lift it out with a hoist.

The radiator is out and it looks to have a lot of room up front to not touch the condenser. I can install the motor without touching the transmission? Because that would make life way too easy!

Or am I going to have to pull it back and stab it into the clutch?

      Thanks donholio.

Oh, yea you can pull it just fine, use 2 head bolts with chains since the heads are off. I mention to lay the condensor forward to avoid hitting it. Tthe trans will droop a bit once it's off the dowels and the input shaft clears the clutch disc.

When stabbing it, you're gonna have to have someone with a breaker on the crank more than likely, but you can do it with some finesse

Sounds like cake, I didn't want to mess with that transmission..

Lol! Doing a motor swap on the side of the street! FTW!

I can throw a t5 around with ease, this trans is quite a bit bigger.. Lol!

I watched 3 brothers swap a buick auto trans in a Kroger parking lot. The best part is that it only took them about 4-5 hours with hand tools: when I rolled by during lunch break the car was gone and there were 3 or 4 sheets of cardboard soaked in ATF laying on the concrete.
