  • Powdercoating transmission

Does anyone have any experience with powder coating transmissions?

I think I will run it through the oven for 3 heat cycles to burn out all the oil in the case and then have them do the powdercoat.

We've painted a few, never had any problems. Hell my cross pipe on my turbo is an inch away from the top of my bellhousing and it's still holding up fine

I have the transmission apart, just need to do it now, but was wanting some ideas of what people have done in the past

Just paint it, clean it really good with degreaser, scotchbrite, wax and grease remover, then paint it. You wont have any problems.

meaning it would be a big pain in the ass. I just dont see the need in coating it. But hey, if you get it done for free, more power to ya!

air cooled vw guys got away from doing it, something to do with the holes and ports getting dusted and being a pain to get it all true again. I guess it depends on the quality of the coater.

I was going to bolt it together before sandblasting. We have plugs so nothing gets in the holes where sensors go. It won't really be much less work than If I were to paint it. Still going to have to tape up the surfaces and holes either way.

I've done some T5's and T56's with powder coated cases. No issues to report.
