  • 2007 Mustang..under dash damper rattles..

Went to look at a 2007 Mustang for a neighbor and there is what sounds like a damper flapper rattling when you start the car? It would only do it when you started the car but would do it everytime when starting? Anyone had this issue?

A what? Do you mean a blend door motor?

I have no idea what it is....sounds like some sort of plastic damper that is flapping? Ever heard a clothes dryer vent damper or range vent hood damper flap in the wind? That is what it sounds like when you crank the car. I would assume that it is something to do with the outside air/recirculation system. That was the only thing I could think would have any sort of damper under the dash.

It is most likely a blend door motor with stripped gears inside. Youll need to find out which of the 3 it is. Does it do it when you cycle from max a/c to defrost?

Either way I think it is a 50-100 for the part.

It cycles fine on any setting. Just flapped upon initial start up. Never had a S197 dash apart or even looked closely under the dash. Does the dash have to be removed to replace?
