Knowing I was building a motor, I'd race it as is, and save the cash to help build the motor fater. This will help polish your driving skills and short time as is, and get you into the better combo quicker.
In the meantime, if you HAVE to play with it, try to pick the parts that will transfer to the new combo such as the rear-end stuff and suspension. No sense in buying parts twice, or dealing with the hassle of selling the old parts, and potentially losing money on them IMO.
It's always fun to make more power, but it's also a challenge to get the most out of the current combo. The suspension set up will help lower those times now, as well as down the road, when you're ready for the new motor.
