The Ford racing heads are pretty decent for the money.

I'm trying to get deep in the 12s on a N/A setup, which is where the gear question comes from. The current setup is kind of like a "build it til it breaks" setup while I'm building the other motor. I don't want a power adder though.

For 10s or better I'm putting together a 351 based stroker w/ a turbo, auto, and ford 9" rear.

Well if you're buying heads, go ahead and get big so you can grow into them. AFR 225's from the get go.

So you're saying go big and put those heads on the 351 after it's done?

Lol, can you not go too big on heads? I'm not trying to argue, but I've mostly only done bolt-ons in the past. This is the first opportunity I've ever had to just build a car to go fast that I haven't had to drive every day or rely on for transportation.

If the shortblock is stock then you are very limited on head choices because of PTV clearance issues. Personally I would go with some used TW 170's or AFR 165, and a custom camshaft. Systemax intake, 75mm race tb, 1-3/4 longtubes, and 4.56's with 30# injectors and a 90mm LMAF meter.

The short block is stock. Where is a good place to get a custom grind cam for these motors?

Thanks for the information Diabolic. I'm going to look into that route also. Don't you think the 4.56's will be a little overkill for what all is done to the car? It just has a few bolt on's and stock heads. It will probably be 4-5 months before I put some new heads on, unless I come across a deal sooner.

Well I think it's all part of the combo. You want to cross the line at your redline in 4th gear. You need to get with your cam grinder and use his knowledge to build the right combo. It may be way overkill for stock heads, but after 6 months it won't matter anymore unless you want to do the gears twice.

Know what heads you're getting before calling for a custom grind so they can better match it.
