  • T5 adapter etc

Can a T5 swap into my 289 fairlane be done without buying the clutch cable kit? In other words, can I use the T5 with my stock z bar clutch linage? If so, please tell me what all i need, besides a T5, to make this work.

be a hell of a lot easier just doing the cable conversion. t5 utilizes a pull set up to disengage clutch. Your current z bar is a push set up.

To use the Zbar set up you will need to reuse your 3spd bell with an adapter plate from modern driveline. About $180.

Or use a late model bell with the cable or hydraulic conversion.

Homealone is right. Thats really the only good way to use your current clutch setup.

The cable conversion is well worth the effort. And it's not hard to do.

I used this adapter plate on my '70 F100 with a TREMEC 3550. easy swap and worked great. don't have the truck anymore and the 3550 is in the stang.

I still have the adapter if you're interested.

Ok. But im gunna replace it while im n there. What is a good clutch kit to replace it with since im keeping the 3spd bellhousing? Strictly street driving only so no need for any racing clutchs. Thanks!

You can use an adapter plate with a swap crossmember, and use your original bellhousing, linkage and clutch.

But I wouldn't and I didn't. I will say that I will never have anything besides the cable in my 68 (Mustang).

I used a fox bellhousing, clutch kit and fork, T5, and CPC crossmember, with a JMC cable conversion kit and I have no regrets.

While my fox seems to break cables every 6 months to a year, my 68 is on the same JMC cable I put in like 9 years ago.
