  • 2003 sType Jaguar brake fluid flush & pads $575?!?!?! For REAL???

So, a friend of mine has a 2003 sType Jaguar 4door auto and he needs brake fluid and pads. He went to Christian Brothers in Lubbok and they are charging him $575 for all of it.... does that sound right??? Is there something funky w/ Jag brakes that I am not aware of?

I know the original pads are not cheap for those. I think they are Brembo style brakes, and usually require rotors too. If its the same model I worked on.
    Some cars and a bike...

Some say... they have been raced, some a lot

The older ones had the rotor's in the center of the rear, right on each side of the diff, hence the high price for a brake job. Dont know if the 2003 is the same.

That's old XJ's. S-types have regular brake setups, just with premium parts. It shared the same architecture as the Lincoln LS, and the last Tbird.

575$ sounds right for pads rotors and flush . And that's usually what they need .

My dad was replacing the brake pads on my mom's S type. He decided to splurge and pick up the "ceramic" pads. I told them to return them. If you look, 99% are ceramic "coated" pure advertising bullshit.

Now the cheapest turds are on there from AZ and still will outbrake anything we have.

Thanks folks. He'll be taking it to a decent shop in Lubbock and having them do it. CRAZY how expensive that is. I can do it on my 2000 Gt in less than 2 hours.....

My friend ended up going to a local, non-franchised, brake shop and they did it for $275+/-. Told him straight up the fronts were needed but the rears were fine. Flushed the "muddy water" brake fluid, filled it up, turn the front rotors, and new lifetime pads. He is clueless when it comes to cars so he called me back and asked if this was a good deal. I told him the he'd found a rare shop and to be sure to use them in the future.
Thanks for the input guys. Really appreciate it.

Any idea of the name of the shop? I am getting too old to do work on my super duty in the drive way.

Dude, I was quoted $1100 for new pads and rotors for my X-Type when I had it, quoted by Millinium Jaguar. They said they had "special tools" to do it and they were the only licensed dealer in the area to do it. Whatever.

I bought pads and slotted rotors off ebay for roughly $400 and did it myself. Torques head bolts don't require special anything. LOL

I doubt it makes a difference but tell them "Carl" with the Jag SType sent you.

                          Good luck!

Christian Brothers is a total rip off.
