Can anyone give me a run-down of how to route after-market fuel lines on a coupe?

  • Can anyone give me a run-down of how to route after-market fuel lines on a coupe?

    I think I asked this on the other board but didn't get any response before the collapse.

    I am running a -10 feed from cell to engine, and -6 return back. The cell is sumped though the trunk pan, so I'll be running (2) -8 90*'s from the cell to a Y block to -10 to inlet filter/pump.

    This will all be under the trunk pan. Here are my questions:

    1- I figure I'll go from the pumps, over the axle, should I attempt to secure it to the sub frame rails that go over the axle (seems pretty impossible to get anything secured real well under there without removing the axle.

    2- I am planning on running both the lines on the passenger side, any reason I should/should not?

    3- I plan to run the line along the outside of the sub frame rails (away from exhaust). Is this right? Also, for some reason this car doesn't have sub frame connectors yet, I'd really like to get it driving then have them done, but I know this is going to mean probably removing these fuel lines when I have it done (so they dont melt/blow up). Any ideas here?

    4- Do you run it into the fender well and through a hole cut in the fender well? I am considering putting my fpr above the hole for the air cleaner on the passenger side so I can just 90* into the hole and 90* towards the rear of the car. Where do you guys typically run the inlet/return?

    run them both up the passenger side frame rail. Outside the frame rail is what I did. Then when they come up to the wheel well you use a bulk head to go through the sheet metal and into the engine compartment. Paul has a picture of how its setup. I dont know if I have any pictures.

      I went over the axle and secured to the frame rail in two or three places I think. It might have been over kill.

        So just drill 2 holes and use these?

                  I would switch your supply and return hose sizes. You want bigger on return (after regulator) so you do not build pressure in the return and its an easy flow. On the other hand, you will need a heavy duty pump to keep the pressure up in a size 10 line. The pump will have to compensate for the extra volume.

                  Your return hose should always be bigger than your supply for any fluid application.

                  I would do a -10 from tank to pump, a -8 or -6 from pump to engine and then a -10 back to tank.

                    I disagree. There is no need for more return in this application.

                      He didn't mention the application. I was basing it on the laws of regular fluid flow.

                          System goes like this

                          Dual -8's from cell to -10 y-block

                          -10 aeromotive filters/a1000 pump

                          -10 to Y-block under-hood to dual -8's

                          -8's to each rail

                          -6's out of each rail to a1000 regulator

                          -6 out of regulator back to cell

                            My particular application didnt require bulkheads. The houses really should be ran and feed from in front of the engine since gravity will aid in fuel flow to the engine when the car accelerates.

                            Outside of that, I'd say the hoses shoudl be ran on the passenger side - and not couple with the battery cable for obvious reasons.

                              I remember you saying something about the feeding of the fuel from the front back on one of my (many) previous fuel system related post and for some reason I couldn't understand what you meant. For some reason it clicks now (DOH!), feed the rails from the front of the rail (ie. my -8 feeds on the front of the rail, and my -6 on the rear of the rail), this is actually opposite what I was planning on doing so thanks for clearing it up!

                              The bulk heads look so much cleaner then what I was planning, I think I'll probably just go that route, not exactly sure where I am going to mount the Y block though, I am trying to keep all fuel system parts off the firewall (per advice given here) and I also want to keep all fuel parts as far away from headers/exhaust as possible. Any tips here?

                              Oh, and I ended up running the battery cable inside the car so that shouldn't be an issue with the fuel system.
