  • American cars piles of shit......

Here's another good example of why American made vehicles get a bad name.

Has anyone ever been inside the door to repair a window motor, regulator, door lock motor....etc.

Fords are the worse, these God Damn metal rivots !!!!!

And sometimes they're countersunk, so it makes it impossible to grind them.

You almost always damage the metal door skin trying to get these out.

I really like my F250, but fucking hate when I need to repair anything inside the doors on this thing.

Most of the time you get halfway through and the whole rivot will spin....

its easier the use a cutoff wheel and grind the heads off.....

Do they really save that much money using these things when building the door ?

You're making it harder than it needs to be. Don't worry about the rivets. Remove the window track from the new regulator and slide the new regulator arm into the original track that you left on the window. There are a couple of tabs you can bend out of the way on the original window track to slide out the swing arm when removing the bad regulator. Reuse it, don't drill it.

It's about what's easier to make... not repair.

You just have to be smarter than what you are working on.....

I have a list of cars I hate working on and I can assure you an f250 isn't anywhere near the top.

And on foreign cars they are a snap to replace?

the trick is to apply a little pressure from under the head of the rivet with a trim panel removal tool (clip tool) or small flat screwdriver. just a little pressure (pry up) will stop it from spinning and you are done.

                        outsmarted by a rivet?

I think I replaced my first fox body window motor at 17 and somehow I managed to outsmart the rivets

Drilling aluminum rivets is about as easy as it gets.

Thread title really does not fit the thread.
