OP, did you check the codes? The how-to article is here: http://www.dfwmustangs.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7908
Otherwise it's just a guessing game...

Just reset the Fuel Pressure (with no vac lin connected) to 38psi, started to run alot smoother. Hooked vac line up back up to regulator and fuel pressure dropped maybe 3 PSI (shouldnt it drop a bit more than that?)
Also regapped the plugs to .048-.049
TENGRAM - Have not checked any codes, all the emission stuff (smog pump and all the harness things to go with it as well as the egr having no vac to it) were taken off years ago. So there will be all the codes for emissions.
The Car has a off road h pipe as well and a 255lph fuel pump.
Still wants to Surge at idle but not nearly as bad. Going to reset the Base idle here in a bit after computer resets.1984 Mustang GT ( T-Tops ) "Beware of the 4-eyes" Sold - 2011

Well with Fuel Pressure set to 33-34 with vac (about 38 without vac). New plugs gapped at .048-.049, IACV cleaned, MAF Cleaned, TB Cleaned, TPS set to .975v, Reset the BASE idle to about 700rpms and with the IACV plugged in idles at about 850 rpms. The car doesnt surge anymore, does not backfire. And seems to run pretty smooth. Going to double check the Timing tomorrow.
Thanks for everyones suggestions and help in fixing this.1984 Mustang GT ( T-Tops ) "Beware of the 4-eyes" Sold - 2011

Just because you had a bad experience with the MAF doesn't mean they are ALL bad.. By process of elimination I was able to determine that the MAF or C&L were not causing the issue. Maybe if you read the post before the one you quoted you would have saw that the problem had been fixed and the only thing that got changed out was Spark Plugs.
Back at the top you said he (and i will say we, since i am the one that was mainly working on the car) were dismissing your post about it being the C&L and that it was the only problem, when in fact it had all ready been ruled out. Its funny how a spiked Fuel pressure and a couple fouled plugs will lead post whores to think they know exactly what is wrong with a car they have NEVER seen in their life.
Once again, thanks everyone that did give suggestions and tips on what to check and all.Last edited by Laser98cobra; 06-06-2012, 11:32 PM.

As far as the C&L goes I wouldn't recommend one on my 97 it caused random lean issues which is unacceptable in my book."It's another burrito, it's a cold Lone Star in my hand!"

I only run the Pro M Mass Air meters or Stock Mass Air. What injectors do you have? I have a Pro M Mass Air meter if you want to come by & put it on your car & see if that helpsGOD BLESS TEXAS

I always fought exhaust leaks on LT's I think I finally solved it with some ARP 8mm bolts and copper gaskets over a span of years trying different strategies."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin
