Looking for an 8.8 (99-04)

Like the title says. Anyone have, or know where to get, an 8.8 out of a 99-04 Mustang? I don't need the gears, axles, or differential. I already have gears, Torsen T2R, and 31 spline 99-04 axles. Basically just the housing and bearing caps.

I am trying to swap the 8.8 out of my fox and would like to find the longer 8.8 they used in those years. Trying to eliminate the brake moan when I am on track.

The brake moan is thr rotor hitting the caliper bracket due to axle shaft flex. Mill out the bracket and moan goes away.

I thought the 8.8 housing was the same for all Mustangs '86-04. They just used different axle lengths and brake setups. Is that not true?

I'm pretty sure the '99-'04 housing is slightly wider.

The 8.8s get wider as the years go up, and yes, the axles are longer. I cant remember the exact measurements. The width increase is not anywhere like mounting points. The fox 8.8s were one length, then the SN95s (94-98) were a little wider, then the new edges (99-04) were even a little longer still. They can all bolt up, it just depends on your setup.

Since I am running the 99-04 axles, I basically have right about an inch and a half gap between the exciter ring, and the end of the diff housing. During hard turns, the axles flex, causing the rotor to drag on the caliper, thus getting the brake moan. With the 99-04 diff, that gap is eliminated, the axle flex is addressed, and so is the brake moan.

Also, with going this route, if I decide to run a wider tire, like say 305 maybe, the diff will support it.

And yes, I could dremel the bracket like Aggie97 said, but would rather try and find a diff and plan for the long term.

I milled my old brackets because I still had moan. As part of my recent upgrade I installed new brackets and forgot to mill them. Moan is horrible. Just mill the bracket and be done with it. As light as your car us there is no need for 305's as you would have to buy wider wheels and the additional weight will offset any gain you realize. Keep it simple!
