  • Pulling engine: 2000 3.8L

I've got a few questions about pulling this engine from the top.

    1. Should I leave the trans (auto) connected or unbolt it first?
If I could pull the engine without removing the Y-pipe and drive shaft that
    would be nice.

    2. There are no lift tabs on this engine. Do I need to remove the intake and
use a lower intake bolt hole to attach a chain? Of is there a known better
    way?

    3. I'm guessing I'll need a power steering pulley puller to remove the pump/
    front acc. bracket.

    Thanks for any info.

    1. unbolt the trans
    2. Install some lift lugs. Alot of motors these days don't have them on it. I try to 4 point it whenever possible to use leveler.
    3. Yes you will need both a puller and installer for the PS pump

IMO it seems like it'd be easier to pull the driveshaft and exhaust than it would be to unbolt a trans from a motor under the car.

As for the PS pump, is it not possible to just unbolt it from the motor and leave it hanging in the car? Same for the A/C compressor...

I've never done a 3.8 but I've done plenty of 4Vs and that's what I've always done with those

Well, I have not dug too deep into it yet. Every other p/s/p I've removed, the actually pulley was in the way of the mounting bolts.

I did a motor change on one awhile ago, if i remember you can get to all the bracket bolts and just leave pump and all in car. Trans was easy to disconnect, i don't remember anything difficult, of course i have that mofo on a lift.

Went ahead and pulled the pulley any way and left the bracket on the old motor.

How did you go about lining the torque converter back up with the flexplate? The damn thing has studs instead of bolt holes...

Anyone know the torque specs for the lower intake manifold?
