  • 2005 5.9 Cummins Cooling Issues

I have a 2005 5.9 Cummins with 101K miles. 2 Weeks ago the original water pump started to leak out the weep hole. Decided to be a cheap ass and put an Orileys water pump on it. After that anytime I go over 70-75 mph it starts to climb in temp - prob 215-230 at its worst. Talked to a diesel freak and he said put a Dodge pump on it bc the aftermarkets cavitate at higher rpms. Ok, replaced pump again w factory $185 water pump.......still having same problems. Havent found any specific info on bleeding system, filling coolant proceedure, etc....

Any info or personal experience with this issue is appreciated - Thanks

Shouldnt have any air trapped in the system, they purge by themselves pretty much, you could try getting the nose up in the air, leave the cap off and start/fill when it gets up to temp and the t-stat opens and level drops, should purge the air itself...

Before you keep throwing money at it,check to see if you can feel a cold spot on the radiator.
If you feel a cold spot anywhere on the radiator you need a new radiator.
