  • holley 2 bbl stumble when going to WOT.

302 in a boat. holley 2300 2 bbl. Just installed HEI distributor.

Trying to get my project boat running for the season and I have a bad stumble in transition from idle to WOT if you quickly go to WOT.

To add to the mix we just added an HEI style distributor w/ mechanical and vacuum advance.

Took the carb apart and made sure everything was clean/clear.

Accelerator pump adds fuel no problem and everything is stock so I am trying to rule out the carb and transition from idle to main jet circuit.

Runs ok if you move throttle slow.

    Any suggestions?

Thinking about getting an accelerator pump cam kit but we should not need it being stock.

Seems to me you're missing the other half of the carb.

In all seriousness to me it sounds like a problem with the accelerator pump, even though you said it's working...

Did it have this stumble before the distributor change?

How long has it been sitting without running?

        Did you properly winterize it?

no it was not properly winterized, but last summer we had distributor issues, so basically we are starting over.

Most likely needs a bigger accelerator pump.

                What were the distributor issues?

Rebuild your fuel system including carb. Then start using something to combat the ethanol in your gas.

The 20yr old distributor mechanical advance springs broke and are unobtainable last season.

What's so different with those springs?

Mr. Gasket has a wide assortment of springs for mechanical advance. Crane has them as well.

Fact of the matter still stands that you need to rebuild your carb. Then you need to do some homework on this new distributor.

                    Also check for vacuum leaks.

Put a renew kit in the carb. No vacuum leaks. And not sure why the springs were special but its a prestolite distributor.

I'm going to check what rpm and how much total timing we have, then change accelerator pump cam and double check my float level.
