I'd just build a little 347... keep it looking stock... the engine and the car!

In the early 80's a friend had a 352 in a 67 long bed F150. Ran 9.50's in the 1/8. That's about the equivalent of a truck running 7.50's today. Not too shabby for it's time.
A 460 will fit your car very nice, but depending on what you plan to do, a 347 (like already recommended) will do fine and have lots of room, and not require semi-expensive installation (headers/mounts)sigpic

-347- What is the overall cost of a mod like this? what is needed? I assume I can use my 289.Last edited by Tannerm; 12-19-2010, 11:21 PM.

347/T5/3.73's
don't touch the exterior of the car
that thing would be a blast with that combo and could look 100% stock

a 4cyl T5 can be had for about $75 and will act like a V8 T5 with 3.55's
do it!

If its just a cruiser and the engine is in decent shape, why not throw some exhaust, an intake, carb, heads, etc at it? That would definitely wake it up, and you could paint all the parts factory colors to hide them.

Oh im not 100% against, I just think its highway robbery at $259 (moderndriveline) for a damn cable conversion! Ill end up doing this anyways...
Jimbo - Well played man. I already have a Edelbrock dual plane intake, Holley 600cfm 4bbl, and exhaust. I need heads, and long tube headers and Ill be set! Keeping it stock looking would be a nice addition too .

As I have advised you in the past a cable conversion is not available from anyone. Because of the configuration of the firewall the Mustang-Falcon kits will not work in the Fairlane. A good fabricator can make a cable clutch by slicing and dicing the firewall. I believe I mentioned one company that made headers for a Fairlane with Z bar. Just use the adapter for the T5, fab up a trans cross member, and enjoy the car.
