  • Lets talk disc brake 8.8 rear ends.

I have the chance to pick up a 8.8 rear disc rear end and spindles off of a 89 lincoln mark VII. I know its a direct bolt in, and the axles are a 1/2 inch longer, but what can I do to keep the disc set up, and stay 4 lug? I know the 93 cobras were 4 lug, or at least vatozone says so. Can I not just swap out the rear discs for 93 cobras and call it a day, or am I a total tard? I want to keep the rear discs for the 85 coupe, and the spindles and discs for the 85. I want to keep the 10 holes on the 93, but I could care less on the 85. I want to run a 5 lug set up anyways. What do I need to know, and what am I missing. Dumpicapri and I are stumped on this.

    T-bird turbo coupe's came with disc's. I ran them on my 88 5.0.

That would be easy, but at 250.00 for it all, I am willing to take my chances. A junk yard is going to want at least 250+ for a disc 8.8.

the 93 cobra axles are 3/4" longer than regular fox axles. The 93 cobra rotors might help the fitment issues but idk how it will look.

Screw keeping 4 lug! Just do the 5 lug swap from any mustang parts you can get your hands from a 96 to 04. Don't worry about bump steer. And the twin piston calipers from these years are much beter than the single pistons from the 94, 95s.

That is what I was thinking.

I want to stay 4 lug because I plan on keeping my black 10 holes with my 93. If they made a 5 lug 10 hole wheel, I would in a heart beat. I was going to go 5 lug with the 85, because it's nothing special.

I think you will have to pay more to keep the 4 lug.

Don't they make a bracket to use fox length axles with rear disc . I swear I saw them somewhere . I was thinking those brackets and t-bird rotors would work .

You could measure the backspacing and offset of the two rotors, and then if they are the same, use the race car north (think that's what it is?) Brackets.

That would be ok, for this car.

I think you are right. It has been many years, since I researched this topic. I guess I just need to break out my reference books.

There are plenty of birds in the junk yard, that I could measure.

Yeah, your car looks good with the black 10 holes. It has silver center caps right? Do the black tri bars with silver caps. That would look cool too!

Yes it has the polished center caps. Tri bars and pony caps would look bad ass too, but I went the original route with this car.

A rearend at Pick n' pull with rear disc is $115 with a $25 core charge.

Pull one out of a Turbo Coupe, the manuals have 3.55's and autos have 3.73's. Or just take all of the rear disc stuff and put it on your rearend.
