The fuel mileage isnt impressive to me is why IMO is a crock of shit... I love ford only drive fords but when I bought my 09 F150 It didnt grab me.

The impressive part is that they paid $895 extra (over the 5.0-liter V-8) to get the Ecoboost V-6. They will save some money on gasoline, but the fuel economy difference between the two engines really is not that great. With rear-wheel drive, the Ecoboost F-150 gets 16/22 mpg, which beats the V-8 version by 1 mpg, both city and highway. The four-wheel-drive Ecoboost is rated at 15/21 mpg, which betters its V-8 counterpart by 1 mpg city and 2 mpg highway. Ecoboost owners who drive 15,000 miles per year will save a little less than $200 annually at the pump (with gas at $3.23 a gallon).

Seriously? Some of the comments in this thread are fucking ignorant at best. He asked about mileage not what the fastest hd truck is. The 7.3 may not be the next ferrari but they are reliable. I'd take the 300k mile '99 250 work truck I was driving over a fox body any day. 10 minutes to 80?

I highly doubt that too, I am not looking for the fastest thing on the block. I would have bought a Lightning. I know the duramax is a good engine, I am just not a Chevy fan, the cummins I would take, if the damn things were not so pricey.

Right. I like the cummins but i dont like the body they are in. With that 99 I mentioned I was pulling 18 running 70 on the highway, truck had 300k on it. It had been through one transmission, its still being used as a work truck. Motor has never been apart and its had some sort of chip in it for most of It's life. I miss driving it. One of my cousins is selling a pretty clean last year 7.3 for 15, under 100k.

I've got a 6.4 and do a fair amount of business with a top notch ford diesel mechanic in the area. Months of exposure at his shop has kinda made me more comfortable with the previous generations. I still think the HEUI system is an overly-complex Rube Goldberg monstrosity though.

I think this truck went and converted me. At this point, the only dodge diesel I can reasonably see myself owning is a 2nd gen 12v

I was looking at the 03+ are they good? My neighbor has a 06+ one, and he loves it. What do you think?

I wouldn't buy a 6.0 without planning on spending $3-4k "bulletproofing" it. And at that point, I'd see how much closer that $3-4k got me to a 6.4

7.3's get great fuel mileage. 6.0 not so much. 6.0 is a fine engine, just do an egr delete.

Something I wish I thought of when I bought my 6.0... Now that I'm done doing the mods I'm wondering if I should sell and get a 6.4.

I have an '06 f250 with the 6.0. It gets 16-17MPG on the highway, and 13-14 in town.

Mine only has 55K miles on it, and it's bone stock. This is the best truck I've ever owned!

If the truck has no problems, a simple coolant flush to get away from the ford gold coolant will help prolong the life if the EGR and oil coolers. A coolant filter will help, as well. As long as it's not chipped, the head bolts can last a long time, as well.

That being said, I don't work mine. It only tows occasionally, it doesn't even get driven much. I have it only because of it's size, all 5 of us fit in it comfortably. It's great on trips!

I think ultimately the 6.0 will prove more reliable over time for the simple fact that it's not a common rail fuel system and it's cheaper/easier to repair whenever trouble does pop up.

but the 6.4 just runs so damn good! LOL

Cooter has yours had coolant issues? I saw a 08+ F350 today at quick trip, and it was spewing coolant, not bad but a nice little puddle. The owner had the hood up, and was under it looking. It was near the radiator.
