Just get a new Ecoboost. I'm seeing a solid 18mpg with mixed driving and getting on it pretty often. They tow really good also. My brother bought a new dodge diesel and he cusses that thing everyday. He says he has to drive it like a grandma to barely get 15mpg and it's all stock also.

I would, but I just really do not want another car payment at the moment.

I have a 02 7.3 and it is a great truck. For a crew cab built to pull whatever you put behind it, it does the job just fine. Only mods are the AIS air filter from Ford and a big damn muffler or whatever its called. Truck is plenty fast for what it is. I can not believe people still defend the 6.0. If they are so great then how come you can buy them for next to nothing. One guy I work with bought one brand new and ended up trading it in after a few thousand miles. Block leaked oil, turbo went out, hell he never even got the joy of doing the head bolts. Other guy I work with has had the Excursion with the 6.0 for about 10 years bought brand new and nothing but problems out of it. He has money and has done every fix in the book but still has problems. Talk all the shit you want but when it comes to a diesel I will take reliable over fast any day of the week. These MF's are no joke when it comes to repair bills. Also if you want gas mileage in a 7.3 look at the 95-97's with a five speed. My 95 4x4 crew 1 ton got a little bit better mileage then my 02. Plenty of folks getting high teens low twenties with those trucks. I believe they are lighter then the newer ones.

One of my guys at work has a brand new Dodge and it is hard to believe how quiet that thing is when its running. Like stated above though they have a hoss price and once out of warranty look out.

            not too bad actually.
6.0 ftw, 7.3s are reliable without being touched, but they are dogs.

I have to agree with the 7.3 guys. I talked to 2 of my really close friends tonight. One has a 02 7.3, and the other has a 06 6.0. The guy with the 7.3 has had no issues, and my other buddy, I know just had his computer go out, and it has less then 100k. He was not under warranty and it was a big money thing.

my point was they run on DIESEL not GAS so they don't get good GAS mileage

My 00 7.3 usually gets about 17-18 on highway. Its 2wd CC auto. When pulling my race car and trailer I see about 14.

                  Love the truck.

There was a reason the 7.3 was ran for 10 years vs the 6.0 for less then 10. The 6.0 trucks are nicer inside, yes but vs the dependablity of the trucks, I would honestly trust the 7.3 over the 6.0.

I averaged around 19-20 according to the lie-o-meter on the dash, doing 65 coming home on 287 from arlington to midlothian. I was gandpa driving it lol Im normaly 70-80mph person. At the higher speeds im still not dipping below 15.

I have 2006 6.0 f250. Taking of the huge ass cat converter and stock muffler opened mine up alot. Mine had a large "race bullet" style muffler on it and I yanked the cat off. Mine dosent take forever to get to 80mph.

My 03 6.0 going 70 from Houston to Waco and back could pull 23-24 on the lie on meter.

With that said I have the top end all apart replacing the clogged oil cooler from the previous owner.

I had a 03 F350 7.3L Long Bed CC Fx4 with a leveling kit and 35's on it. It had a AFE intake, bully dog 4" from the turbo back and 10K Mod. I drove to syracuse Ny from here and only filled up twice, when I left then I topped off in east tennesse and did not fill up agin until Hershey PA. I made another trip to AZ and left here with a full tank stopped in west TX at rest area and left it running about 2-3 hrs and grabbed a nap, then filled up in El Paso. I ran 70-80 both trips sometime faster.

The wife and Kiddo hated it because I said no bathroom breaks except when we stop for fuel, yea that plan backfired.
