  • Powder Coating opinions wanted

    Now that the Cobra runs well, I am wanting to start the final phase of pulling it apart, sanding everything down smoth and powder coating the engine parts.

    I want to sand/grind down all the casting marks/lines and markings like "edelbrock" first.

    I am leaning towards a red theme similar to the Viper engine bay.
    Cold side = polished???
    Valve covers = Red
    Intake lower = Grey/Red/Black????not sure which one yet
    Intake upper elbow = same as the lower????
    Alternator = black
    Alternator bracket and P/S bracket = black
    Turbo housing = ????
    Coolant overflow = polish it or coat it????

    Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

    Does anyone have a Powder Coating setup and oven they want to donate with their time for some beers and money?

    If not, who has a quick turn around at a reasonable price that will not F me? I need the parts back in time for the Power Tour in 3 weeks.
    Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

      Burleson powder coating would be my first call.
      My opinion-
      Cold side = polished
      Valve covers = Red
      Intake lower = Grey or a metallic silver coating
      Intake upper elbow = same as the lower
      Alternator = black
      Alternator bracket and P/S bracket = black
      Turbo housing = polished
      Coolant overflow = black

          IMO I would powder coat as much stuff as possible, it will be less upkeep. Personally I like an aluminum/matte black look, throw some red accents in there and it will look badass.

          I have a guy that does solid powder coating work at a good price, he's trustworthy. I actually have a bunch of stuff dropped off to him right now, he will also be doing my Super Vic upper and lower intake. I should be getting my stuff back early next week, I can post some pics if you're interested.

                    Leave it be. The nicer you make it, the more you will hate it when it loses it's "new" look. I powdercoated my entire stock setup and while it looked nice I got tired of it quick. IMO the raw performance parts looks meaner under the hood. Powder was cracking around all my bolt washers, and it bugged me but I'm a

                      Do everything in black wrinkle and textured red(or blue) valve covers.

                        i like matte silver and gloss black. since you are pretty much 99% there i might just take the polished parts off and hit them with a sand blaster to get the shine off. cheap and easy and everything would be uniform. then ditch the rag on the powersteering res and it is pretty much perfect. i hate when people go powdering everything personally though.

                          I would powdercoat the cold side and the intake manifold the same color - a silver. I'd leave everything else alone. I wouldn't do any red under the hood, that can get really obnoxious really quick. You already have an interesting, presentable engine compartment. I think I'd leave it alone if it were mine.

                          *edit, here is a little too much red*
