  • Need harmonic balancer help.

Hey guys. I am new to the site. I have a 2008 v6 mustang 5 speed. I took it to the shop the other day and they showed me that the harmonic balancer needs to be replaced because it is causing my belt to squeak. I bought a new balancer and a Garret belt, but I couldn't get the bolt out of the balancer. Does anyone have any advice on how to get the bolt out so I can change the balancer out? Oh yeah, I am in Rockwall if anyone wants to come help out. Thanks in advance.
    Thanks,
    Alan.

This, you will also need a remover to get the old one off.

I had the puller and installer ready to use, but I just couldn't get the bolt out of the balancer. Once the bolt is out and it is being put back together, do I need to replace the bolt with a new one? I have read mixed things about this issue.

Get a good impact to break it loose....If you don't have an impact then you can use a large breaker bar to break the crank bolt loose. There is also a method where you can use the start on the car to break the bolt loose. The right way is to replace with crank bolts with new as it is torque to yield.....

Awesome. Thanks Redd. Since I have had the mustang since it was new (2008), I think I will be spending a lot more time on here now.

Correct, do not reuse the bolt. When installing, stage 1 torque to 33ft/lb.. Stage 2, tighten additional 85 degrees.
