  • Can you tell if paint is "thicker"

Any good body man will know that after-market pa int jobs are often (if not always) thicker than the original factory one .

Maybe this is all in my mind, but even on high end paint jobs done by a pro i feel like i can tell that its thicker . Something about the edges of the panels andthe body lines .

Do you notice this ? Is it something that the human eye can even tell ? Or am i imagine this ?

I know that they make electronic gauges to measure paint thickness on cars that high end detailers use.
I wouldn't think the human eye could tell it's thicker unless it's actually thick enough that it makes body lines less sharp.

The primer is the thickest layer, the base is the thinnest, and the clear isn't very think unless they layed a few extra coats.
