  • do drum brake adjusters go bad?

my little rio has started to make a weird faint noise and it's coming from the driver rear drum brake assembly. after a bunch of investigating and some testing i am thinking it's the adjuster. to my knowledge they are basically just a fancy screw with a star on it so the brakes can reset and have the brake shoes in the proper place. if that is the case then why would it stop working? my parking brake still works fine(it's a manual trans, so i use it every day).

i have read that you can disassemble and clean them, after some online reading sometimes they can seize up and not work properly. i know it's sort of a dinosaur technology but has anyone came across a seized adjuster? i just have never heard of that brake part not doing it's job, so i am a little skeptical

    thanks

like you said it is threaded and can seize up over time. You should be able to get one in a brake hardware kit and it is an easy fix. it happens allot more near the water or up north with the salt but drum brake hardware can and does go bad.
