    Shocks?

    After doing some work on my explorer sport, CJ brought it to my attention that my bump stops have been rubbing, which is probably a good indication it's time to replace my shocks. I've also noticed a lot of up and down movement when going over big bumps lately which makes me think they're close to bottoming out.

    What are you guys recommending for shocks? I've thought about some Rancho shocks but I want to know if they ride rough? Also considered some of the nicer Monroe shocks. Mainly looking for a nice smooth ride.

    If you want OEM quality, go OEM or Old-Man EMU. Other than those two options, I would look on one of the explorer forums and see what everyone has been running for replacement.

      i bought the nicer monroe struts for my tacoma recently. The ride was really good for about a week, but not really that great now. I regret it and should have gone with bilsteins.

        Here I am a year later and I still haven't replaced these damn shocks. Any recommendations other recommendations of what to buy? I also need a recommendation for a shop to install them. Unfortunately I don't have the space to do this myself.

            According to their website, Bilstein doesn't make anything for my explorer.

              I put KYB gas adjust shocks on my s-10 they aren't bad and at $130 for a full set, they didn't break the bank.

                Are they a softer or stiffer shock? How do they make your truck ride?

                  I couldn't tell you. Mine had been long gone for a long time. The shocks I pulled off didn't appear to be factory.

                  The ride isn't bs. Its not bouncy and it doesn't ride like a buckboard. I have been having some pain from my back surgery but riding in the truck doesn't cause any issues

                    Well I ran over to the local Pepboys and had the shocks replaced, unfortunately Monroe on makes Reflex shocks for the rear on my Explorer and I wanted to do the same shocks all the way around. I ended up going with Monroe Sensa Trac shocks so we'll see how they do. Total ended up being $234 of parts and installation, which isn't too bad. I'll be putting these through the "bounce" test this weekend.
