So just get a long enough breakover bar, and the right socket on the crank bolt? And this bolt is sticking through the pully? I am a noob at this. Never done any of this before.

Also, I found the balancer, and the guy I bought it from. I only paid something like $89, but there are places still selling it (like jegs) for over $200. I don't know why.

Also what do yall mean by putting a "stop" in the hole? Is there a special tool that will tell you when the number 1 piston is at TDC or something ? I am a huge noob at this .

I saw jw33 say that you can use a 3" 3/8 ratchet extension. Please forgive my ignorance. But what happens when it "stops". Are you just waiting for the extension to stop rising out of the spark plug hole? Or are you waiting on it to "stop" you from being able to turn the crank anymore with your breakover bar?

Also this guy says that using a stop like a screwdriver or something is too inaccurate. But i don't like the idea of filling the cylinder with fluid either .

So i was thinking of using something like this:

        Or this:

Shop Sears for appliances, tools, clothing, mattresses & more. Great name brands like Kenmore, Craftsman Tools, Serta, Diehard and many others.

        Or this:

Bought it new off ebay from an official Lunati liquidator. Many companies have those. About 10 months ago. It was installed at that time by my mechanic who is one of the rare good mechanics .

The ebay seller says he can't help me, that i should call lunati. Lunati's pathetic ass said that they hadn't sold those balancers in years, and that they do not have any records in any archive that might say where the numbers go.

I will never again buy or recommend lunati. I'll steer people away.

2 extra degrees of timing either + or - will likely not give you any noticeable running problem first off. Secondly you can probably use the factory hash marks at the base of the distributor to get back to 10 degrees assuming it's never be removed or restabbed in the wrong location.

If all the previous info and advice seems scary to you then you probably need to get someone more familiar with these procedures to help you.

Yeah I understand what you're saying . Doesn't really seem scary though, just inaccurate .

Well, the part where people are saying to like "put your finger over the hole and wait for air".

It seems that the only real way to use the piston to find completely accurate TDC would be to measure the gas coming out of the cylinder when it stops, you'd have to be at TDC.

You would need to know the exact pressure that a 302 would build up at TDC and you could measure the gas with something.

Just putting your finger over the hole, there could still be a tiny amount that you couldn't feel. That whole situation just doesn't feel right to me .

ok finally got some time to work on this turd . Not my daily and i dont drive it that often .

Jus a couple more dumb questions . from a noob like me

If you twist the dizzy clockwise, are you advance or retard the timing ?

And if you get the no. 1 piston to TDC, is the timing indicator thing by the balancer (that thing you shine the timing light on) saying where zero degrees is, or is it indicating what the timing is currently set to ? So in my case is it telling me its at zero degrees or at 12 degrees BTDC? I

Spend fifty bucks and put a stock one back on it. You dont need a $300+ Romac with a stock motor

Your problem is ebay not lunati, IMO. Many people lie on ebay and list look a like products as the real thing

                          From the listing

New other (see details): A new, unused item with absolutely no signs of wear. The item may be missing the original packaging, or in the original packaging but not sealed. The item may be a factory second, or a new, unused item with defects
