  • What gear for my old truck?

My 52 is pretty gutless on the low end and I'm fairly sure it's got some shallow gears. I'm thinking 4.10s but figured ild ask you guys.

It's a Chevy 350 with a 700r4 and leaf springs in the back.

Also how can I tell if it actually has a gm 10 bolt? It was swapped before I bought the truck so I wanna make sure I get the proper gear for the proper rear end. And before the smart ass answers yes it has 10 bolts holding the diff cover on.

In my 64, Im running the 700r4, I had 4.10s for a year, and it was just too much for the street, I really had to baby the throttle on any kind of damp day. I went to 3.73 and am completely happy. Best of both worlds. I run 275s on 15 inch ralleys in the rear

Well, what size tire is on it? If you're running a 35" tire, 3.73's would be a horrible idea. We need a little more info (tire size, usage of truck, highway %, desired cruise RPM, power range of motor, etc..) to make an educated guess.

My OD ratio is .71 and I run a Mickey Thompson Sportsman rear tire that is 30" tall. I run 4.56's, and drive it at least 150-200 miles a week. This is a 93 F150.

.73 for a 700 unless it has a ridiculus amount of tire

Same as above....the 700R4 has a crazy first gear (3.27 I believe?), and is already pretty short with 3.73's...if you jump to 4.10's it's probably going to annoy you.

My 72 c10 had 3:73s and it was fun. If it was wet, you could spin the tires for atleast 2 miles.

It has 245/45/17s I'm not sure of exact height. It's just going to be an around town cruiser.

OK, then I'd copy the other guys and say the 3.73's. But 3.42's if it was lighter.

                        3.06 first gear on a 700r4/4L60e.

Those 245/45-17 I would guess to be around 27" tall. I don't see why you need 3.73 but that will get you moving. I would think 3.42 or 3.55 would be plenty. My 'burb does pretty good with the 3.42. You might find a set under one at your local recycler.
