Automatic transmission woes

Just got a chance to look at my truck.
The fluid has gotten thinner, there's even more than the last time I checked it, and it is darker than before.

Also, it makes noise that it didn't make before.

I would say its toast.
What are my chances at getting it rebuilt and it lasting?
Should I just look for a good 4l80e instead of spending money on this 60?

Just get it rebuilt. 4L60E's are good transmissions my '97 Z71 has over 300k on it and it still woks great. How many miles is on the truck? I would expect a "good" rebuild to last as long or longer than the first one did. If you are going to tow with it just add a external cooler and change the fluid and filter once a year. IMO it would not be worth the cost and trouble to put a 4L80E in a 1/2 ton truck.
