There is a reason it was around 15 years. Thanks for helping with my point. There will probably more 7.3's on the road than 6.0's, 6.4's, 6.7's,and whatever they come out with next all combined in ten years. Dont forget I threw in the ECOboost truck also. Surely that will pull the numbers up before they change the engines out to the next model. People keep buying 7.3's up and either fixing their little issues or rebuilding them because they are great trucks. If I pay 50k for a truck, and pay the extra maintainance every year to have a diesel, I expect it to last at least five to ten years with out having any major issues.
    Whos your Daddy?

I believe international still uses it in some medium duty trucks.

I love my 6.4, but no way in hell I'm owning it outside of a factory warranty. I'll probably end up with a clean 07 5.9 and buying a different vehicle to DD.

Yeah they were around so long cause the emissions law weren't strict. I owned a 97 7.3 and I put 230k plus miles on it but got rid of it for this 6.4 and never wished I didn't. I have 72k miles on my 6.4 and it never given me a problem plus I'm making 4 times the power and get better mpg.

And I don't think you guys are understanding why the 6.4 has problems. If you get rid of all the emission shit on the truck the 6.4 is even a stouter engine then the 7.3. It sucks you have to spend money to make it reliable but once you do, you have a million time better truck then the 7.3. I know this cause I have owned both.

International is still making the 6.4. So that should be telling you something.

So, to make a 6.4 reliable, you HAVE to do the DPf delete and tune, voiding the warranty in the process? I really like them, but if that's the case is pass.

It is pretty much the case with all the diesels. I know of a 6.4 that is push 140k miles. It has only been in the shop for two radiators and about 100 dpf problems. It is a early build 08 also, still rocking the same fuel system.

The dodges were the same way about the DPF problems. I'm not sure if the figured it out, but the 08's I had only had DPF crack/clogging problems up to 150k miles.

Pretty much but what I've seen from diesel forums as long as you return it to stock just by putting the DPF back on most not all dealership will still honor warranty work.

Will they pass inspection with the DPF delete?

I know diesels used to not be put on the sniffer. I have no idea what has changed since the new emissions stuff

It depends on what county I'm pretty sure. Our 00' 7.3 came with nothing but a muffler from the factory...and it's legal to cut that off
In Cook County they do not check for any emissions stuff, but I'm pretty sure they do in Denton County and below
