Ford blamed water but never proved it and multiple fuel samples yielded no water and good fuel. We have also had 2 shell turbos one also lost a head, not sure I'd blame those completely on the motor since they were in fire apparatus which seem to have their own set of issues being what they are.

roger that... the fuel systems are definitely sensitive.
damage can be done by a tank of bad fuel and then the truck runs for another 6mo until the pump shits the bed.
the 6.4 was Ford's first HPCR endeavor... GM went through it back in the early/mid 2000's, Dodge went through it starting in 03.
6.4's are more difficult and more expensive to work on, so long-time ford diesel owners get a double whammy on their first HPCR experience
I smell and visually inspect the fuel before I fill up, use only Racor filters, and use power service silver every fill up.

We have our on refueling station which is monitored pretty close with fuel filters on the pumps changed every other day. I figure if it was water we should have had a lot of Mercedes-Benz powered frieghtliners in the shop as well as a few others."It's another burrito, it's a cold Lone Star in my hand!"

all of the big three love to say "contaminated fuel" when they deny warranty claims

Thanks for all the information. I had only seen the 6.4 truck on the dealer's website until yesterday afternoon. When I did go look at it in person, it was not the well taken care of, all highway miles jewel they claimed on the website. All of the plastic covers on the front side of the running boards were sandblasted away with bare rusted metal underneath. The tailgate looked like it had been folded in half and then hammer and dollied back into some sort of shape. The bedside they didn't show on the website had the same treatment as the tailgate. The truck had clear signs of living most of it's hard life as a dirt road farm truck. I didn't even fire it up. I don't need that kind of headache. For now, I am going to fix the 7.3 and rock it for a couple more years. Thanks again for the input.

The simplicity of the 7.3 is great, but it's a dog. I love the sound of it straight piped though.
Get the 6.4l, it's an amazing engine. The 6.0 gave people the same problems, but these are easily fixed with a minimal investment.Originally posted by BuzzoSome dudes jump out of airplanes, I fuck hookers without condoms.

My 7.3 will pull anything I will ever need it to and then some. It will also move on down the highway with the cruise on pulling an assload with zero issues. I will bet in 10 years there will be more 7.3's still running properly then the 6.0, 6.4's. and even the Ecoboost trucks. I wanted a Ecoboost bad but unitl Ford quits changing engines every two or three years I wll steer clear of them and I am a Ford guy.Originally posted by BuzzoSome dudes jump out of airplanes, I fuck hookers without condoms.
