I am helping swap a 351C into a 66 Mustang and my brother in law wants to convert it to EFI. I know there are other options out there (megasquirt, fast, aem, bs3, etc.), but for the cost that you can find a LSx PCM/harness + the fact I already know the HP Tuners platform makes this more attractive.
From what I can see I'll need to figure out a way to mount a 24t reluctor to the crank (along with mount a sensor to read the reluctor), and I'll need to mount a cam sensor/trigger to either the cam gear (with the sensor through the cam cover) or modify the distributor to become a cam sensor.
All of the other sensors seem pretty straight forward, ect, map, etc. The plan is to either have fuel injector bungs welded to his current single plane 4150 intake manifold or see if there is an existing 351C efi single plane. Then mount a 4 barrel throttle body to that (which should have tps and iac sensors). Then we'd mount the coil packs on the firewall.
I am sure you guys who are running MS, BS3, FAST, etc. have to come up with solutions like these to operate the computer, so I am looking for the easiest route.
The stock ls2 timing cover has the sensor going through it like this:
The stock ls2 cam gear has the half circle tooth on it like this:
So if we could modify the stock dizzy to have a single tooth design like this I think that might be easiest:
If not we could possibly drill through the timing cover and mount a sensor similar to the ls2 setup and mount some type of single tooth reference for it to the cam gear like this:
For the crank reluctor we could figure out a way to mount a 24t reluctor ring to the crank pulley like this:
