  • Upgrade my starter?

So im in the middle of replacing the rear main seal, clutch, cable, flywheel, bearings, etc... and never realized how much of a pain in the ass it is to get the starter on these cars out. This starter works good with the exception of sometimes when its been running, i shut down, and start back up a min or two later, its ALOT slower to turn it over... I think it may be heat related, but it always manages to turn it over and start the car...

Should I go ahead and swap out the starter since I'm this close to it? If so, what is a suitable upgrade? 87GT stock.

Anything else I should replace while I'm down here?

It wouldn't hurt. Any electrical component that is heated tends to draw more amps. I would check your battery and cables as well. Make sure your battery is sufficient in terms of cranking amps.

Later model foxes have mini starters. Get a heat blanket too.

Check this one out. This is what I put in mine after losing half a day at the track due to a brand new starter being toasted by heat soak and the car would not start.

Threw one of these in and haven't had 1 issue, even in 100+ weather.

Yeah, that dragging will get worse and worse.

Or you dont have enough grounding to turn it over like normal when everything is hot.
