  • How much power through T5?

Hi i just wanted to ask how much power you can put through a stock t5. Before they usually break. Its in a 94 GT mustang. I am not to that point yet, but I can see a day when I might need to know how much a stock T5 can take.

For a '94 WC T5, 300 ft lbs of torque per Ford.

some people bust them at 300 ft/lbs... some last with a 347. its just how your going to drive the car and what kind of stress your going to put it through.

Agreed . The weight of the car , tire and gear combo and especially how smooth and your style of shifting all play a role .

Mine lasted fine behind a nitrous'd HCI street car. I find em, not grind em.

I put down 350 rwtq on True Streets dyno, with my secondaries opening a little more than halfway. I got that problem fixed, and even with 3k rpm launches my T5 has lived just fine so far behind my 351w hooking good on DR's. I beat the fuck out of this car every time I drive it too. I guess I should mention that it's a 2900# car with shit 3.25 gears.

With that being said, I've seen mild 302's break them.

Luck of the draw I guess?

Starting to sound like luck of the draw. Mine has near 200k on it, but then again I wouldn't be beating on it like a... some kind of stepchild. I would use the power of course, but unlike some guys I can drive the car without trying to blow it up . So maybe that would help it last.

The main secret to making them last is to put a shifter with adjustable stops on it, and have them adjusted correctly!

I miss my 4 cyl T5, I liked the way it was geared. I shredded it behind my windsor when it still had stock heads and cam. It lasted for like 4 years though.

Just put a good shifter in it. I recommend a Tri ax or pro 5.0 and as long as you are making clean shifts it should live, to 350ish foot lbs of torque.

im putting a stock t-5 behind a turbo 302(500-600hp) and im not worried, im not going to be launching at 5k and powershifting every chance I get...if and when it does grenade that will just mean an upgrade to a tko600 or g-force

                              ...

I ran mine behind nitrous and then 450 ft/lb of Vortech for a long time before 3rd gear gave up.
