  • Any reason that this won't work?

I currently have a Hurst Quarter Stick installed in my coupe. The old trans was a th350 w/a forward valve body. New trans is a Glide with a forward valve body (brake).

I'd like to reuse the shifter if at all possible but the part numbers for the forward th350 is different then the part number for the Glide/reverse th350.

After going through the install instructions for both shifters (530-316-0001 and 530-316-0006) it seems like the only difference is that the glide/reverse 350 comes with a glide bracket, shifter arm, and a block off for the 3rd gear. All of the other part numbers are the same, including the actual shifter itself.

Here is a parts list for each
This is the 350 shifter I have:

This i the 350 shifter I supposedly need to buy:

No biggie, the only thing that can happen is the shifter won't stroke the correct length and burn the trans up...

like we talke about on the phone, the shift arm is different. The ratio between the pivot point and the cable attachment hole is different.

I'd just get the right shifter.

Your going to burn up a brand new tranny because your trying to save money.

**EDIT** Oh and on a powerglide the shifter arm has to be installed with the pan off so I hope Mike is putting a aftermarket arm on there drilled already for Hurst, B&M and TCI shifters.

There's one similiar to that pic already in there.

The actual shifter itself is the same exact part number, along with every other part sans the bracket and the shift arm. The shift arm I have is just like that (albeit 2 piece), with the 3 holes.

I can't see how the shifter would be any different if it has the exact same part number.

..and I can't see how the shifter can be the same. It means that the shifter cable/valve body is stopping the over extension of the shift lever.. not the shifter gates as it should be.

On a B&M, that's a whopping 185$, it has different gates. Gates that keep you from pulling against the valve body/shift arm as a stop. I'd rather 'do it right' as opposed to piecing it together and trying to make something work.

Selling your shifter should cover more than half of the new one.

Looks like you install a plate in the shifter that keeps the shifter locked out of the last gear.

Paul, what do you want for your shifter setup? Got the cable/bracket/shifter?
