The car already has a cage, turbo with front/dumped exhaust, ARB, and runs around on big and littles. A Powerglide, out of the above modifications, would be the least you would even notice and it would be faster.

lol @ the answers, looks like the glide is in the lead!

      2 questions:

1- how much faster do you guys think a glide w/a brake would be vs. a th350 on footbrake (assuming the track holds it).

2- why would gas mileage be much worse? seems like a 1:1 top gear ratio would yeild the same mpgs

I don't see how the glide would be any different driving aroun than the TH350. They both have a 1:1 final correct?

        Just read above post, doh!!

LMAO at gas mileage. If mileage was a concern, you shouldn't have done the cam, the turbo, the TH350 or the gears. I'm just sayin'.

From the looks of your pics, you had a long tail TH350?

if so, you're going to have to cut the driveshaft for the PG. Having a PG is absolutely NO different as far as 'gas mileage' is concerned.

PG will make the launches much more consistent and keep the tireshake at a minimum (at your power level).

Because OMG it only has 2 gearz and thats why chebby never put em in street cars..............oh wait.

Seriously, with a 28" tire and 3.23's youll be at 2700rpm at 70mph. Right about the same as the nitrous guys with 4.30's and T5's do everyday.

Its a no brainer for me but then again I wouldnt have gone through hell and back and put AC in that thing either.

i think there are 3 flavors of th350, 6, 9, and 12" tails, I believe this is a 9". The driveshaft is one of my concerns with the glide, I am still on a stocker w/heavy duty U-joints and a 1350 27spline yoke. If/when I go glide wouldn't I need a longer driveshaft as the overall length of the glide is shorter thus the driveshaft will need to be longer? If so, whats the most cost effective solution, can they lengthen a driveshaft or will I need to buy a custom one? What is the cost here?

The a/c isn't for everyone, but it's a nice thing to mention before you blow the doors off your race car competition!

from experience I would just spend the money and get a good drive shaft... when mine broke it messed up more stuff then a good drive shaft would have cost me the first time around...

I agree about the AC part.. making good power and still having AC (any power windows and locks and power brakes and steering is "cool factor" to me

No, you said it right - I was doing 10 things at once, you'll need a new driveshaft. No, they can't be lengthened. If anyone tells you different, run the other way.

A good quality driveshaft is 275-400$. You're gonna have to pry your buttcheeks apart and turn loose of some fundage for that.

A TH350 is gauranteed to break again, so fixing it and putting it back is NOT an option (like I know you're considering). If you footbrake it, You're going to be limited all day, every day.

LOL! I am prying my but checks apart as we speak, and the 350 is not going back in. I am about to head out to Mikes to drop it off and if it makes sense I'll have him fix it and then sell it, if it is going to cost too much I'll trash it.

Who builds driveshafts for a reasonable amount?

There's a bunch of places.... They're all high as hell. Texas Driveshaft in north fort worth is who I use (I think that's the name)

If you had the short th350 then the drive-shaft would be the same for a Glide. FWIW when I went from a th350 to a glide I went .20 faster changing nothing else.

If your converter didn't get trashed when the TH350 failed then you can reuse it too.

There is a driveshaft place right down the road from my house off Hwy10 and Precinct ln. They built mine and a few others around here. There prices are good and so is the quallity.

Inland in denton can build/rebuild a driveshaft. We've had them rebuild, shortened, and to lengthen they basically cut the yokes off each end, machine them down to fit the new tube, weld it all up, and balance the assembly. They can retube to any length needed. But to go larger or smaller diameter you have to have the end yokes to match the tube size.

By lengthening I mean take out the entire tube section and replace it 100% with a new and longer tube.

Yep another bonus for the glide, just make sure to get a turbo spline input shaft and your set.
